Asia Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) 2018 was held on November 3rd – 6th in Bangkok, Thailand. One of the participant is the student of English Department and the only representative from Faculty of Humanities Unand, Cindy Bella Difia. For those who don’t know, Asia Youth International Model United Nations aims to provide a platform for young future deplomates to encourage themselves in understanding international issues and policies, debating and sharing perspectives between participants from different background and different ethnicity.

The participant of this event came from all countries in Asia such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, etc. So, basically one of the benefit to participate in this event is to be able to meet and befriend with people from different countries which have different backgrounds, cultures and nations.

This event was held at Prince Palace Hotel and they stayed there for 4 days and the next following days they stayed at a lodge near the hotel because after the event was over all the participants were still in Thailand for exploring the beautiful places. So, basically they are in Thailand for about a week, for the event plus exploring.

“we were devided into groups and I was in Antigua and Barbuda group. Every groups were asked to be able to present about the country which is the name of the groups and give out our opinion about the contry and there was also debate session.” said Cindy, one of the participant, when explaining the activity when she participated in AYIMUN 2018 event in Thailand.

On the closing night, there were culture performances from all the participants including Indonesia, and from what Cindy said, the Indonesian participants performed a song by one of the famous singer in Indonesia, Via Vallen “Meraih Bintang” which is the title song for the Asian Games 2018. When the song was playing, all the Indonesia participants were coming to the stage while holding Indonesia flag.

When she was asked about her precious experiences while in Thailand, she explained, “after the event is over, me and all the MUN participants went to some place they called “heaven” that makes everyone curious about that place. Turned out it was a high building which has hundreds of stairs. when I looked at the stairs I feel like I won’t be able to reach at the top, but when I did that didn’t make me so tired. The view from the top was beautiful and amazing, a lot of tourists were there too”.

“I was able to see how people doing persentation and debating in English language and also how confidence they were when delivering their opinion in front of so many people.” said Cindy, when she was asked about the benefits of joining the AYIMUN 2018 event in Thailand. She said that by joining that event, she can properly increasing her ability in speaking english because she spoke in english all the time with the othe participants while she was in Thailand.

Lastly, she leave a message for those students who would like to join such event like Asia Youth International Model United Nations or other international events but has a problem with economy and things related to that, you don’t have to worry because we can get sponsor from a company by giving a proposal.
